2026 Pre-season Taniwha Hockey Programme

Kick off the new year with the 2026 Pre-Season Taniwha Programme—the perfect next step for our current Taniwha participants and an unbeatable opportunity for new to the programme to gearing up for the season ahead. Designed to sharpen skills, technique, build confidence, and elevate performance, this programme offers high-quality coaching and a focused, supportive environment to help every player start the year strong. This programme also provides an ideal starting point for U16 and U18 players aiming to trial for the newly reinstated National U16 Tournament in October or the National U18 Tournament in July.

Whether you’re continuing your Taniwha journey or joining us for the first time, this is your chance to prepare, grow, and set the tone for a successful 2026 season. Let’s get to work—Taniwha style!

Head Coach, Jose Maratea

Jose Maratea is a hockey player originally from Argentina. Jose has played hockey most of her life and has been coaching for over 15 years. Jose has been running her own academies for over 9 years now. Focusing on specific skills, technically and tactically. She has also coached Rep teams and Premier teams for both men and women's teams. Jose is very passionate about the sport and the physical and mental development of the players. She encourages those players that want to play for fun as much as the ones that want to take the sport even further.

Registrations close Monday February 2nd 2026 at 1pm.

Sessions will be run for players -U13 2026 school year 7 & 8 and U16 2026 school year and U18

Goalies will be included and once again we encourage older goalies to attend.

The Taniwha programme cost is $145 PP for 5 sessions

 U13 will be from 4.00pm to 5.30pm and U16 / U18 5.30pm to 7.00pm

The programme will cover the following

3 main passing skills

Many types of receiving the ball (how many based on how they improve)

Dribbling - same as above

Ball control.

Skills (side to side, 3D etc)

Change of speed

Leading

Movement

Goal Shooting

Tackling - Different ways

PLEASE NOTE: Refunds will not be given for non-attendance or for withdrawal once the programme has started as coach numbers are committed to at the start of the programme.
