šŸŒ§ļø Weather- related Postponement Process Update šŸŒ§ļø

With weather looking unsettled, here is a clear outline of how postponement decisions are made and communicated. This is being shared today ahead of any decisions that may be required tomorrow.

The CEO (or nominee) has the authority to postpone hockey at any stage due to ground and/or weather conditions, right up until just before game time.

How decisions are made:

Hockey Northland staff monitor a range of sources, including:

• Weather forecasts

• Real-time local conditions

• Council or Civil Defence updates and direct advice

• Likely Turf playability at scheduled game times

How postponements are communicated:

• Hockey Northland Facebook page

• Hockey Northland website

• Email to teams scheduled to play (so make sure your team contact list is up to date)

If play has already started:

A decision to postpone can be made by agreement between both team captains and both umpires.

• If there is disagreement, umpires will make the final decision

• If umpires cannot agree, play continues

Important:

Information can change quickly. Unless a significant weather event has clearly unfolded, decisions are unlikely to be made early in the day to allow for the most accurate assessment.

If a postponement has not been published by the time you or your child needs to leave, please make the best decision for your own circumstances and safety.

Early Heads Up:

Any games not played on Thursday 25th March will be rescheduled to Sunday 12th April.

We appreciate your understanding as we prioritise player safety and fair competition.

Please look out for updates tomorrow.
