Summer Hockey Business House – Six-Aside Rules
Cost $400 per team
Season: Tuesday 4th November – Tuesday 9th December 2025 (six weeks, 12 games) 2025
Game Format
Games are played on Tuesdays.
Game times:
6.00pm – 6.25pm
6.30pm – 6.55pm
7.00pm – 7.25pm
7.30pm – 7.55pm
8.00pm – 8.25pm
8.30pm – 8.55pm
9.00pm – 9.25pm
The later games slots will only be used if team registrations require those game slots
Teams must be ready to play before their start time.
Games are played on a quarter field (dividers on the sides only).
Each game is 25 minutes, no halftime.
Teams will play two games per night.
Mouthguards and closed shoes are compulsory. No play without them.
Shin pads are recommended but not compulsory.
9. For players that do not own a hockey stick, loan sticks will be available to use during games. (These sticks must be returned on the night at the conclusion of the teams second game)
Game Rules
Mixed gender: At least 2 females on the field at all times
Goals can only be scored inside the attacking 11m mark.
Smaller, non-standard goals will be used.
No hitting – pushing only.
Raised sticks or wild stick swinging will be penalised, if the infringing is repeated the umpire can send the infringing player off for two minutes, reducing the team to 5 on field players for the duration of the penalty.
The ball cannot be raised into opposing players above knee height
No overheads or drag flicking.
No goalkeepers or kicking fullbacks.
No penalty corners. Infringements inside the 11m are taken back to the 11m mark, in line with where the infringement occurred.
The ball must travel 5m before a shot on goal.
Defenders must retreat and remain 5m from the ball until play resumes.
If the ball goes out over the sideboards, to restart play the ball needs to be taken 1m in the field of play from where it went out.
· If the attacking team puts the ball over the end line, the defending team will restart play from the 11m mark in line with where the ball went out, the defenders must retreat and remain 5m from the ball until play resumes.
Substitutions:
End turfs: Teams sub from the 11m mark.
Middle turfs: Teams sub from the ends only.
Maximum 6 players on the field at one time.
Do not stand behind the goals for your own safety
Subbing: A player must be fully off the field before the substitute can enter.
Game Management & Uniforms
Games will only have one Umpire
Umpires will manage scorecards.
From time to time, an umpire may not be available. In these cases, teams can either provide their own umpire or agree to run an honesty system without a nominated umpire.
Teams must have uniforms:
Bring a light and dark shirt option in case of clashes.
Ice is available from the Bar/Canteen for injuries.
Team should bring a basic medical kit suitable for attending to small cuts.

Fair Play & ConductPlayers, supporters, officials, and coaches are expected to follow the Hockey Northland Code of Conduct (available at www.northlandhockey.org.nz).
On-field expectations:
Hold your stick safely and do not use it dangerously.
No intimidation, obstruction, or deliberate body contact.
No kicking or stopping the ball with the back of the stick.
No dangerous play.
Abuse or dissent toward umpires will not be tolerated — individuals or teams may be removed from the competition.
