NHA TOWN & COUNTRY

This is our bridget between club and higher honours for our aspiring Northland Players.

Senior Town & Country

The Senior Town and Country teams are an important part of Hockey Northland’s calendar and act as a development and selection platform for senior players aiming to represent Northland at the National Hockey Championships (NHC).

Reserve B, Division One and Two players are encouraged to participate in the Hikurangi Trophy and Powell Cup fixtures, which are the ideal playing level and format for those grades, and offer alternative representative opportunities within the senior calendar.

  • Final teams for the Town and Country games will be selected by the NHC coaching group in consultation with Hockey Northland.

  • Participation in Town and Country is considered a key part of the NHC selection process, and selectors will be observing performance closely.

  • While the Town and Country series is competitive, it also provides opportunities for a wider group of players to be seen and assessed in a structured format.

  • While the competition is named Town and Country, it is not always possible to place players into teams based on personal or historical alignment. Team balance, player numbers, and positional needs will take priority in final selections.

  • The names "Town" and "Country" are a nod to the longstanding tradition rooted in Northland’s historical club structures, but geographic alignment is no longer a consistent or determining factor, particularly as many players now live outside the region but return to participate.

  • This series continues the legacy and tradition of senior representative hockey in Northland and provides selectors an opportunity to assess a wide pool of talent in competitive match situations.

U16 Town & Country

From 2025 onward, Town and Country pride will run deeper than ever, with teams now spanning multiple age groups — including U16, and Senior teams — all competing for the overall banner.

Every match matters, as goal difference across all age groups will count toward the overall total to determine who claims the prestigious Town and Country Banner. It's not just about one game or one team — it’s a full-Town or Country effort. Will Town rise to the top, or will Country claim the bragging rights? The race for the Banner is on — and every goal counts.
