Hockey Northland COVID-19 Protection Framework and Vaccination Certificate Requirement Update

Kia ora,

The Government has announced a new COVID-19 Protection Framework, which will adopt a ‘traffic light’ approach to managing COVID-19, including the use of vaccination certificates from Friday 3rd December. The Government has indicated that Northland will be entering the COVID-19 Protection Framework under the RED setting.

The Governments COVID-19 Protection Framework clearly sets out the requirements and limitations under which sport can be played. When the new COVID-19 Protection Framework comes into force, vaccination status and the ability to verify that status via a vaccination certificate will be a key feature in determining what is possible under different settings (green, orange, red). Under legislative settings all organisations can require visitors to their facilities, and/or participants in activities that they run, to be vaccinated as a condition of entry, subject to having undertaken a risk assessment to inform a final policy decision.

The Hockey Northland Board has reviewed the COVID-19 Protection Framework looking at what it means for us all here at Hockey Northland in terms of the management of the associated Health and safety risks.

We know how important physical and mental wellbeing are in the ongoing fight against COVID-19, and that’s why we’re committed to doing all we can to have our organisation open and keep it open.

So we have the best chance possible of ensuring compliance with our health and safety obligations, reducing the risk of exposure to, and transmission of, COVID-19, and operating safely and optimally at all levels of the COVID-19 Protection Framework, the Hockey Northland Board has confirmed in principal that there should be the formulation and adoption of a new COVID-19 vaccination policy and in line with this, we will be requiring employees, and contractors, and all members and volunteers (including coaches, officials, athletes, parents and other visitors) to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to entry to the facility and activities from Friday 10th December.

Fully Vaccinated means that you will be required to have completed a NZ Government recognised course of COVID-19 vaccination.

You can request a My Vaccine Pass now if you are aged 12 or over and have had 2 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in New Zealand. People under the age of 12 years and 3 months are not required to show proof of vaccination.

Until Friday 10th December, we plan to operate on a trust model, where anyone accessing our facility / activities will be asked to tell us their vaccination status (verification will likely be requested) and will be treated according to their responses.

We do realise that the choice to get vaccinated or not is a personal one and we respect that. However, for Hockey Northland to do what we do best, we need to be open and operating safely, and vaccinations are the key factor for us being able to do so.

Once the new COVID-19 Protection Framework is in place, should you not wish to produce your vaccination certificate, we will assume that you are unvaccinated, and you will no longer be able to access the Hockey Northland facility and activities.

The following information will assist you to request a pass.
