Hockey Northland

Hockey Northland

Hockey Northland was established in 1903 and is the northern most region in New Zealand. It was the first association to combine men and women under the same umbrella in 1976. Most of the hockey is played in Whangarei although Bay of Islands (as a sub-association) is based in Kaikohe and has just over 300 members. It has grown over the years to have a total of over 2,700 members. The facility now has three artificial water turfs, with the addition of the Currie Electrical Turf which opened in 2014. The grandstand turf (EVE’s turf) has just been relayed and extra additions of a video tower and LED lighting is available from the start of 2020.

The facilities at Hockey Northland include a full bar/kitchen and lounge/conference room. These can all be hired for events/business seminars.

The historical grandstand from the Kensington Racecourse was relocated to the facility and restored and overlooks the main EVE’s Turf.  Situated underneath the grandstand is an indoor training centre and a seminar room facility.

Hockey Northland’s facility sponsor is Whangarei ITM.
